Chillie

High above the clouds,
And cities.
Down icy glaciers
And sometimes rocks.
In heaven, but also in a dump,
Is Chillie.
Not all of chillie,
But to El Colorado,
A ski resort.
My ski team and I drive and fly for hours,
Enduring countless lines and security checks,
Driving up what seems like a ninety degree slope,
With donkeys and cactuses on all sides.
It definitely doesn’t feel like a ski trip,
This is a desert.
But then past the clouds and,
All we can think about is this is amazing.
Gleaming mountain tops shine from the blazing sun,
We can barely make out chairlifts and people
But wait, more hauling of skis and luggage and waiting.
When we get inside the hotel we realize this isn’t a five star hotel
I don’t even think people bother to rate it.
Cats were walking around
And as soon as we walked into our room the door knob fell off
And we spent the rest of our trip with no doorknob
So our room was everyone just came because you could just walk right in.
But besides the hotel and its food, the skiing was amazing
And think everyone needs to experience
Some of the most amazing skiing
But coming back to a room that had no doorknob, broken windows, 5 cats and bunk beds that just collapse.

But it doesn’t seem to last forever
And it is full of thrillers
Like Mr. Miller,
Who actually isn’t very clever

Dog Sled Poem

Out of the warm and into the cold,
hundreds of noises, all the same, but very different.
Harness the small, but amazingly strong dogs,
Waiting for the signal, braking,
And we’re off!
Flying through the streets, a turn, and we are in the forest
Nearly dodging trees and rocks,
Sharp turns, getting whipped by branches,
But they keep pushing on.
Step after step, hill after hill.
And finally we arrive.
Tents, chains, rivers and trees.
Un-harness the dogs, chain them up,
The opposite of this morning.
Feeding them and giving them soup,
To one thing, it is disgusting food,
But to another it is a delicacy.
Now to our food,
But first, cut logs and get water,
Then eat amazing food,
Then finally sleep, so we can do it all again tomorrow.

Man/Boy

Duff I.

Boys are boys.
They don’t want to be little,
They don’t want to be weak,
They want to get lots of respect,
They want to go places,
That only the men can go,
And get all the fancy cars, the money and the women.
But over the period of time
Where the boy gets tall, strong, and gets more respect
That want changes,
And becomes something different.
Men don’t want to be tall and old
They want to go back to the time where they could dream
About the cars, money and girls,
And be able to break the rules by going places they weren’t allowed to go
And doing things they weren’t supposed to do.
But the men and the boys shouldn’t dream
They should make the most of what they have now
Instead of wanting something, that, if you wait for comes too soon
Or wishing for something that’s already past
Maybe that might just make what we have now
A little bit more fun.

Dave Budden
Director of Admissions
Crescent School2365 Bayview AvenueToronto, ON M2L 1A2

Dear Mr. Budden,

My name is Duff Isberg and I attend the Sterling Hall School. I am in grade 8 and started attending SHS in 2006. My leadership role at SHS is Heritage Captain, which deals mostly with the heritage of our school and the heritage of Canada, but I am also still working on the position with my faculty advisor. I was on many sports teams last year and the first term of this year, including rugby and soccer. I am a very competitive athlete, and compete in very high levels in some sports including tennis and skiing. I love competing in all different sports. I came to Sterling Hall just two years ago, but I have made many friends and feel like I fit into the SHS environment very well. I am doing well in many subjects, but my favorites would have to be Music, Art and English. In music, I am playing in three different bands, the Grade 8 band, the Music Elective, and The Intermediate Band. The Intermediate Band is by invitation, and is the highest level band at SHS. We play a lot of cool but high level music, including Hockey Night in Canada, Funkytown, Eye of The Tiger and many more. In the Music Elective this year, we created and composed and song and a music video to go along with it, which played on the screen at the Winter Concert.

Crescent School is my first choice for schools this year. I love that Crescent is a big school in terms of students at the school, but it still keeps the warm, accepting, and nurturing environment, much like Sterling Hall. I feel that I would fit in at Crescent very well just like I feel like I have done at SHS. I have many friends at Crescent including a lot of my best friends that I know really well. I know these friends from different events in my life. Some friends are Justin Potts, James Coholan from skiing, Jay Mcconnell from tennis, Drew Barootes and a lot more. I also love the facilities at Crescent School. I love how Crescent has almost every sports team imaginable, and the amazing and new facilities to play it on. One sports team that I would really love is the Ski Team. I haven’t been to a school yet that has a ski team, but for years I have wished that my school had one. I am very interested in the music program at Crescent. I have heard about all kinds of things about the amazing trips around the world for the band.

I would like to thank you for the interview that we had a couple months ago. I hope you consider me for an opportunity to attend Crescent School.

Sincerely,

Signature.
